Cogeneration for College
Biola University
Problem
Biola’s aging central plant needed an update and a 1MW expansion to accommodate the growing school along with a new SCADA system.
Solution
CTI added a new 1MW Caterpillar engine, automation and an absorption chiller for central cooling and power of the of the entire campus. This project was the first that utilized the Catapillar Target engines on the West Coast. CTI provided permitting, engineering, construction, startup, testing for this turnkey design. Automation included AB PLC’s and HMI’s for their Central SCADA that controlled the generator and the cooling.
